Monteverdi Students under the Spotlight!

5/13/2021

Tomorrow, May 14th, at 6PM will be our final online recital for the 2020-2021 school year. Although we can’t wait to see our friends in person, online recitals have been an exciting and safe way to see our talented students grow into performers. This recital will feature the widest range of instruments yet, including flute, trombone, recorder, guitar, piano, violin and clarinet!

Today on the Monteverdi blog we would like to highlight two of our students who will be performing in tomorrow’s recital.

Ana Lindent-Boyes is a junior at Twinfield High School. She is currently studying under Lisa Carlson, and has been taking flute lessons for almost seven years. Ana has found great success in audition based bands as well, taking 3rd chair in the All New England Band and 2nd chair in the All State Orchestra. Tonight she will be performing Arthur Honnegger's "Danse de la Chevre", a technical piece that will showcase her musicality. In addition to being an excellent flutist, Ana is a champion of civil rights and equality. She succeeded in getting Twinfield Union School to fly the Black Lives Matter flag this year as a part of the Student Voice group. Ana is clearly a passionate individual, and her energy will surely be reflected in her recital performance. To watch Ana speak at the flag raising ceremony, use this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtXSBjasaRA&ab_channel=RowanCleary

Cosmo Duncan has been studying trombone with our newest faculty member, Jesse Metzler, for a couple of years. They work on typical trombone technique, but really focus on Cosmo’s love for contemporary music. Cosmo is in a band, The Professors of Mystery. They like punk, ska, funk, and dance music. In his own words, “My band is The Professors Of Mystery. We released 4 albums on Bandcamp. We have many videos on YouTube. We play mostly our own music. Now I play some songs by Nirvana.” It is clear that Jesse and Cosmo must have some very fun trombone lessons! Tonight Cosmo will be performing “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana. We are really looking forward to hearing Ana and Cosmo, along with all of our other students at the recital tomorrow! It will be a diverse and engaging show. Thank you to Lisa for your continued work to create online recitals. Lisa has perfected the art of organizing set lists, registering students, holding sound checks, communicating with faculty, and providing a comfortable environment for our performers, all online!
